Job summary

Shirlington Animal Hospital in Arlington, VA is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join a compassionate, patient-focused team. You will support veterinarians with appointments, treatments, and exams while providing excellent care for the animals and their people.

We offer $18.00–$21.00 per hour based on experience, with availability to work every other Saturday. Benefits include CE reimbursement, medical/dental/vision insurance, PTO, and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary practice or animal healthcare setting.
• Confidence handling and restraining companion animals safely and compassionately.
• Experience collecting laboratory samples and performing technical veterinary assistant duties.
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with appointments, treatments, and procedures.
• Comfortably and safely handle animals during examinations and medical care.
• Prepare vaccines and support patient treatments under veterinary direction.
• Collect and process diagnostic samples for in-house testing and outside laboratories.
• Keep treatment areas, exam rooms, and equipment clean, stocked, and organized.
• Maintain accurate patient records and medical documentation.
• Educate clients on patient care instructions and assist with follow-up communication.
• Work collaboratively to provide an outstanding experience for both clients and patients.

In This Role, You Will

• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills

• Availability to work every other Saturday
