Job summary

Arkansas Veterinary Emergency & Specialists in Little Rock is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our 24/7 emergency team. You will obtain vitals, assist with exams, perform venipuncture, prepare samples, and support anesthesia under supervision.

Open to full-time, part-time, or PRN, with three 12-hour shifts per week including weekends. We offer medical, dental, vision insurance, paid parental leave, a 401(k) plan, and team wellness resources as part of a supportive culture.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Veterinary Medicine.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vitals of patient and a thorough history from client at presentation.
  • Restrain canines and felines safely and humanely for exam, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Venipuncture of Cephalic, Saphenous, and Jugular.
  • Perform hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, fecal, coagulation panel, and process laboratory samples for reference lab.
  • Radiology techniques and positioning.
  • Place and maintain Intravenous Catheters including central lines.
  • Place and maintain Urinary Catheters.
  • Calculate medication doses, including oral, injectable, and CRI.
  • Administer medications, including knowledge of drug compatibilities.
  • Knowledge of CPR procedures.
  • Perform emergency anesthesia, including calculations, monitoring, and recovery.
  • Complete medical records in hospital management software.
  • Fill prescriptions prior to discharge.
  • Review discharge instructions with client.
  • Handle client calls and questions, including schedule appointments.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
