Job summary

Antech Diagnostics in Arlington, TX is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our on-site team. You’ll help with animal care, routine clinic tasks, and education within the Antech Imaging Academy’s veterinary ultrasound program.

The role requires experience in veterinary or animal care, knowledge of anesthesia and animal behavior, and strong communication. You’ll work with a dedicated team and support adoption and training activities at the academy.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a veterinary or animal care setting is required.
  • Strong understanding of general anesthesia.
  • Strong understanding of animal behavior and handling.
  • Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to animal care.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to handle occasional errands and varying tasks as needed.
  • Service oriented attitude.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Proven reliability through punctual attendance.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license; clean driving record and MVR check required.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize animal kennels, cages, and other housing areas regularly.
  • Provide care for animals including feeding, watering, and health monitoring.
  • Assist in administering medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Assist the veterinarian in administering reversal medications and fluids during sedation procedures.
  • Prepare animals and the training rooms for upcoming procedures, ensuring setup according to protocol.
  • Safely and effectively restrain animals.
  • General understanding of sedation procedures and monitoring anesthetic parameters.
  • Collaborate with veterinarian to prepare paperwork and medications for hands-on training.
  • Assist veterinarian with administering medications and handling animals during examinations and treatments.
  • Transport animals to and from appointments or facilities as needed.
  • Perform occasional errands related to clinic operations, such as picking up supplies or delivering documents.
  • Support adoption processes by preparing animals for adoption.
  • Maintain clean, organized training space and equipment; report maintenance issues.
  • Interact with students and staff in a professional demeanor; provide good customer experience.

Education

Licensed veterinary technician
Associate degree in related field (plus)

Target Pay

$16.00- $20.00 an hour.

Job Description

The Antech Imaging Academy is the leading provider in veterinary ultrasound technique and diagnostic education in the US. We specialize in multi-modality learning, providing veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their field. We are currently seeking to expand our team with a motivated Veterinary Assistant who shares our commitment to excellence in animal care and education.

Job Responsibilities
Animal Care and Husbandry
  • Clean and sanitize animal kennels, cages, and other housing areas regularly to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Provide care for animals as needed, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their health and behavior.
  • Assist in administering medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Assist the veterinarian in administering reversal medications and fluids as needed during sedation procedures.
  • Prepare animals and the training rooms for upcoming procedures, ensuring everything is set up according to protocol.
Animal Restraint
  • Safely and effectively restrain animals.
  • Utilize appropriate techniques to minimize stress and discomfort for animals.
Technical Tasks
  • General understanding of sedation procedures and monitoring anesthetic vital parameters and responses to medications.
  • Collaborate with the veterinarian to prepare paperwork and medications for hands on training.
  • Assist the veterinarian with administering medications and handling animals during examinations and treatments.
Transportation and Errands
  • Transport animals to and from appointments or facilities as needed.
  • Perform occasional errands related to clinic operations, such as picking up supplies or delivering documents.
Assisting with Animal Adoptions
  • Support the adoption process by preparing animals for adoption, including ensuring they are healthy and presentable.
Building Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Maintain a clean and organized training space and ensure all equipment is properly sanitized and operational.
  • Assist with light cleaning tasks within the academy, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting common areas.
  • Ensure that all equipment and supplies are maintained in good condition and report any maintenance issues.
Client Interaction and Support
  • Interact with students and staff friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Provide strong customer experience through the thoughtful and professional care of the animals and educational facility.
Requirements

  • Candidates must be 21 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license. A clean driving record and successful completion of an MVR check are required for this position.
  • Licensed as veterinary technician, associate’s degree in related field is a plus
Physical Requirements
  • Predominantly standing and/or walking (75%)
  • Lifting up to 60 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 30 lbs. and bending or kneeling for cleaning purposes
  • Occasional local travel to assist with transportation of animals
  • Must not be allergic to animals or have concerns with animals
  • Must be available to work weekends as needed to support Academy schedule and animal care
