Village West Veterinary in Chicago, IL is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join Thrive Pet Healthcare. The position is full-time (30+ hours/week) and includes two rotating Saturdays per month.

Responsibilities cover direct patient care, lab work, anesthesia support, medication preparation, and client communication. Qualifications require prior Veterinary Assistant experience, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia experience, and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant is required.
• Venipuncture and IV catheter placement skills are required.
• Anesthesia experience is required.
• The ability to maintain a positive work environment.
• The ability to work collectively with team members in a supportive environment.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Effective multitasking (prioritizing and accomplishing tasks).
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Provide patient care under the direction of a DVM or Hospital Leadership.
• Assist other members of the medical team with restraining, handling, and lifting of animals.
• Process and submit lab work (in-house labs and external partners).
• Clean, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies.
• Maintain kennels, floors, trash, restrooms, and laundry.
• Explain and prepare medications for clients.
• Stock supplies in treatment areas, exam rooms, surgical suite, and pharmacy.
• Provide supportive care to hospitalized patients as directed by a veterinary technician or attending veterinarian.
• Assist with reception tasks: phones, scheduling, client check-out, and follow-up communications.
• Proficient with blood draws, IV catheter placements, and anesthesia/surgery.
• Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.
• Record all pertinent information in patient records accurately.
