South Shreveport Animal Hospital in Shreveport, LA is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support client and patient care across hospital services. We value a versatile assistant who enjoys variety and developing a well-rounded skillset in patient care, client service, surgery, dentistry, and outpatient procedures.

This full-time role offers a 4/10 schedule, with Monday–Friday hours and rotating Saturdays, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role
• Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats
• Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles
• Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
• Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational and time management skills

In this position, you will take an active role in:

• Supporting efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
• Assisting veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgical procedures, and dentistry

Schedule and compensation:

• Compensation: $15-17 per hour, for each hour worked
• This is a flexible, full-time position, with a 4/10 schedule and availability needed Monday-Friday, with rotating Saturday.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role preferred
• Proficiency in the following skills:
  • Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles
  • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
  • Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs preferred
  • Ability to maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
