Job summary

Island Veterinary Clinic in Savannah, GA is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our compassionate team. The role involves pet restraint, triage, lab work, imaging, nursing care for medical and hospitalized patients, medication administration, and assisting with surgical preparation and anesthesia monitoring.

We value a calm, team-oriented caregiver who can communicate treatment plans effectively with clients and continue to grow their knowledge and skills through ongoing training

Qualifications

• Experience of 1 year preferred for Veterinary Assistant role.
• Must be compassionate, calm, a team player, a multitasker and a strong communicator.
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficiency in sample collection, medical histories, lab tests, radiographs; anesthesia monitoring is a bonus.
• Self-starter with desire to advance knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Restrain pets, triage incoming patients, collect and analyze lab samples, perform diagnostic imaging, and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases.
• Administer medications and communicate treatment plans with clients; assist in surgical preparation and anesthesia management.
• Must withstand odors/noises and exposure to bites, scratches, waste, and contagious diseases.
• Offer training and development opportunities through virtual and hands-on programs.

Island Veterinary Clinic is a well-established companion animal general practice in Savannah, GA on Wilmington Island. We have a loyal client base and excellent tenured staff. Our goal is to create and maintain meaningful and consistent relationships with our clients and patients in order to provide the best care for each individual. We strive to maintain a “community feel” to our clinic while using advanced diagnostics and education to maintain high standards of care.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.
• Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

We’re looking for:

• An experienced Veterinary Assistantwith a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.

• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, andanesthesia monitoring are a bonus!

Pay Range: $16/hr
