Job summary

Ellison Drive Animal Hospital in San Antonio, TX, is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians across wellness, surgery, grooming and boarding. You will assist with patient restraint, labs, imaging, anesthesia, and patient care in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of veterinary experience preferred.

• Ability to restrain pets and assist with examinations and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Safely restrain patients for exams and procedures.
• Triages incoming patients and assists with assessments.
• Collect and process laboratory samples.
• Assist with diagnostic imaging and radiographs.
• Provide nursing care and monitor hospitalized patients.
• Administer medications as directed by the veterinary team.
• Prepare patients for surgery and assist during procedures.
• Support anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe veterinary environment.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting our veterinarians and veterinary technicians while helping create a positive experience for both our patients and their families. Our hospital provides a variety of veterinary services, including wellness and routine care, surgery, grooming, and boarding, giving you the opportunity to build and expand your veterinary skills in a diverse setting.

As part of our veterinary team, your day may include:

• Safely restraining patients for veterinary examinations and procedures
• Triaging incoming patients and assisting with patient assessments
• Collecting and processing laboratory samples
• Assisting with diagnostic imaging and radiographs
• Providing nursing care and monitoring hospitalized patients with varying levels of stability
• Administering medications as directed by the veterinary team
• Obtaining medical histories and communicating with clients about treatment plans
• Preparing patients for surgery and assisting with surgical procedures
• Supporting anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe veterinary environment

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a compassionate, dependable Veterinary Assistant who enjoys working with both people and pets. Previous veterinary experience is preferred, with at least one year of experience being a plus.

The ideal candidate is:

• Calm, compassionate, and comfortable working with a variety of animals
• A strong team player and communicator
• Comfortable properly restraining pets
• Able to multitask and prioritize in a busy veterinary setting
• A self-starter who takes initiative and enjoys learning
• Familiar with sample collection, obtaining medical histories, laboratory testing, and radiographs
• Experienced with anesthesia monitoring or other advanced veterinary skills is a bonus
