Job summary

NVA General Practice is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to be the primary support for the entire team, aiding in a variety of services to ensure excellent client and patient care.

The role includes assisting with patient care, monitoring hospitalized pets, restraining animals during procedures, and handling routine diagnostics while maintaining equipment and a clean hospital environment. Join a collaborative team focused on compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years old or older.
• Must be a self-starter, able to multitask and a team player.
• Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can handle them when stressed, ill or in pain.
• Prefer 1+ years of experience, but not required.
• Able to meet physical demands: lift and restrain animals (up to 40 lbs) and assist with lifting.
• Walks or stands for extended periods; often in bent or squatting positions.
• Works well with all levels of hospital team members.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and treatment.

• Administer medications under supervision.

Job Description Overview

• Assist with patient care and treatment
• Monitor hospitalized pets / Monitor/aid in caring for animals after surgery
• Maintain inventory and stocking
• Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims
• Aiding with routine diagnostic tests (i.e. Taking radiographs, running bloodwork, reading fecal)
• Maintain & sterilize surgical instruments/equipment
• Clean/Disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas of hospital
• Administering medications under Veterinarian/Vet Tech supervision
• Feeding/bathing animals
• Answering phones
• Customer service
• Helping clients with their pets
