Job summary

Powell Animal Hospital, part of Thrive Pet Healthcare, seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians with end-to-end care for patients, including anesthesia monitoring, radiography, and lab work. This full-time role requires 4 ten-hour shifts with rotating Saturdays and compensation starting at $16–$18 per hour, negotiable by credentials and experience.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of clinical experience.
  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, radiographs, and lab work.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  • Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Safely restrain patients and assist with exams and procedures.
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed.
  • Assist with hospitalized patient care, including monitoring and comfort measures.
  • Assist in surgical and dental procedures, including dental radiographs.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records.
  • Perform venipuncture and collect samples (blood, urine, fecal).
  • Perform intubation and IV catheter placement.
  • Run in-house lab testing and prepare samples for reference labs.
  • Take and assist with diagnostic radiographs (including positioning and safety).
  • Assist with surgical prep, sterile set-up, and patient recovery.
  • Monitor anesthesia and maintain patient safety.
  • Support post-operative care, including pain management, monitoring, and discharge education.
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding treatment plans, estimates, and next steps.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and restocking of exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Follow infection control and safety protocols.

Description

Veterinary Assistant – Powell Animal Hospital, Powell, Tennessee. Full-Time: 4 ten-hour shifts with rotating Saturdays. Compensation: Starting at $16 – $18 per hour, negotiable based on credentials and experience.

About You

You’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to‑end care for our precious patients. Your work will range from hands‑on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests to support services including admitting and discharging patients.
