Job summary

Thunderbird Veterinary Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma, is seeking an enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant to join our pet-centered team. You will assist with restraint, triage, lab work, imaging, nursing care, medications, and client communication in a fast-paced but compassionate setting.

We welcome applicants with at least 1 year of veterinary experience and a patient, team-focused attitude. The role offers ongoing training and a starting wage of $14/hour, based on experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year veterinary assistant experience preferred.
• Compassionate, Calm, Team Player, Multi-Tasker and Strong Communicator.
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring are a bonus.
• Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance your knowledge and skillset.

Responsibilities

• Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Hours of operation

• Monday - Thursday:9:00am - 6:00pm
• Friday:9:00am - 6:00pm
• Sat:9:00am - 12:00pm
• We are closed on Sundays

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.
