Job description

Kennebunk Veterinary Hospital is looking to add a compassionate, motivated Veterinary Assistant to our collaborative and relationship-driven team in beautiful Southern Maine.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with prior veterinary experience who is eager to grow their skills, expand their medical knowledge, and become part of a supportive, team-oriented environment. Credentialing is not required, but we are looking for someone who is proactive, curious, dependable, and genuinely passionate about patient care and veterinary medicine.

At Kennebunk Veterinary Hospital, we believe great medicine starts with strong relationships – both with our clients and within our team. We pride ourselves on client communication, education, and providing thoughtful, whole-patient care in a supportive and collaborative environment.

We are a four-doctor small animal practice that has spent more than 30 years building long-standing relationships within our community. Many of our clients have trusted us with their family's pets for generations—caring for grandparents, parents, children, and now even grandchildren's pets over the years.

What Makes This Team Different
  • Collaborative veterinarians who enjoy teaching, mentoring, and discussing cases together
  • A supportive environment where questions are encouraged and continued learning is part of the culture
  • Strong emphasis on client relationships, communication, and education
  • Team members who value curiosity, compassion, and proactive patient care
  • Opportunities to continue growing hands‑on technical skills and medical knowledge
This Role Could Be a Great Fit For Someone Who:
  • Already has veterinary experience and wants to continue building their skills and confidence
  • Is proactive, dependable, and eager to learn
  • Enjoys building relationships with clients and supporting patient care
  • Appreciates teamwork and collaborative medicine
  • Has an interest in surgery, anesthesia, or technical skills and wants more exposure over time
  • Understands the importance of treating the “whole patient” and providing compassionate care

Training and support will be provided, and our team is committed to helping the right person continue developing professionally while expanding their hands‑on experience and medical knowledge.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Assisting veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatments
  • Supporting appointments, patient restraint, and exam room flow
  • Preparing and cleaning surgical and treatment areas
  • Assisting with laboratory samples, radiographs, and general nursing care
  • Client communication and education
  • Maintaining accurate medical records
  • Helping create a positive, efficient, and supportive environment for patients, clients, and teammates
