Job summary

Fremont Animal Care Center is seeking a full-time Vet Assistant to join our compassionate team in Idaho. You will support veterinarians and technicians, collect histories and vitals, and participate in exams, diagnostics, surgeries, and patient care.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Help veterinarians and technicians provide patient care.
  • Gather histories, obtain vitals, and prepare animals for exams.
  • Assist with exams, diagnostics, treatments, surgeries, and hospital care.
  • Collect lab samples and prepare for in-house or external tests.
  • Prepare and dispense medications with accuracy.
  • Take radiographs following safety procedures.

What You'll Be Doing:

Every day is different, but you can expect to:

  • Help veterinarians and technicians provide exceptional patient care
  • Gather patient histories, obtain vitals, and prepare pets for their appointments
  • Assist with exams, diagnostics, treatments, surgeries, and hospitalized patient care
  • Collect lab samples, run in-house diagnostics, and prepare samples for outside laboratories
  • Prepare and dispense medications with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Take radiographs while following proper safety procedures
  • Comfort nervous pets (and sometimes their humans)
  • Educate clients on preventive care, medications, vaccines, surgery aftercare, nutrition, and wellness plans
  • Keep exam rooms, treatment areas, surgery, and the hospital clean, organized, and ready for the next patient
  • Help maintain inventory so we're always prepared

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-2 years of experience as a veterinary assistant preferred
  • High school diploma

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with aggressive patients; hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes; possible exposure to contagious diseases.
  • Will be exposed to potentially hazardous or unpleasant materials, including: blood, urine, feces, and vomit (at least 50% of the time); anesthetic gases (25% of the time); cleaning materials (90% of the time); medical sharps (90% of the time); radiographic exposure (25% of the time), exposure to therapy laser (10-15% of the time), and zoonotic diseases (less than 10% of the time)
