Job summary

VCA Advanced Animal Hospital in Hannibal, MO is seeking a full-time veterinary assistant to support exams and procedures, take histories, restrain animals, and maintain a clean, organized hospital.

Responsibilities include radiographs, in-house diagnostics, record-keeping, client education, and assisting with surgery prep. We offer comprehensive benefits, paid time off, and opportunities for growth within the VCA network.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary setting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams and procedures.
• Take patient histories and perform TPRs (temperature, pulse, respiration).
• Restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Prepare and clean exam rooms.
• Assist with radiographs, lab sample collection, and basic in-house diagnostics.
• Maintain accurate medical records and support charting.
• Provide client education and ensure excellent service during visits.
• Support surgery prep and recovery as needed.
• Help maintain a clean, stocked, and organized hospital environment.

Schedule

Full-time position that would include two weekend shifts per month.

Compensation

$16.50 - 19.00 and the starting range is determined by skill set, and years of experience in the field.
