Job summary

VCA Sawmill Animal Hospital in Columbus, OH is seeking a full-time veterinary assistant to join a 9-doctor practice dedicated to high-quality care, teamwork, and client education. You’ll support veterinarians and technicians during exams, radiographs, labs, and dental procedures, while maintaining a clean, organized hospital and accurate medical records.

Your role emphasizes compassion, safety, and communication as you handle dogs and cats of all temperaments and help deliver outstanding service

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary setting
• A passion for animals and a desire to learn and grow in the veterinary field
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
• High school diploma or equivalent required

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams and procedures
• Take patient histories and perform TPRs (temperature, pulse, respiration)
• Restrain animals safely and compassionately
• Prepare and clean exam rooms
• Assist with radiographs, lab sample collection, and basic in-house diagnostics
• Maintain accurate medical records and support charting
• Provide client education and ensure excellent service during visits
• Support surgery prep and recovery as needed
• Help maintain a clean, stocked, and organized hospital environment

About Our Hospital

VCA Sawmill Animal Hospital is a 9-doctor practice providing high-quality veterinary care including preventive medicine, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, and client education. We take pride in fostering a collaborative, supportive culture where learning, teamwork, and professional growth are encouraged.

Now that our renovation is complete, our facility features 10 exam rooms, 2 surgical suites, a dental procedure room, new CT imaging services, a state-of-the-art physical therapy department, and an updated grooming department.

Compensation

$ 17 - 18/ hr and is determined by skill set, and years of experience in the field.

Qualifications
