Job summary

Companion Animal Dental Service in Bolton, CT seeks a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, focusing on dentistry and high-quality care in a low-volume referral setting.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of animal handling in a veterinary practice.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, husbandry and medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with veterinary assistant duties; willingness to learn specifics.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication with pet owners and team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures.
  • Assist technicians with blood draws, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, record keeping, instrument maintenance and sterilization.
  • Monitor health and behavior of animals in the clinic.
  • Prepare and stock examination rooms; maintain cleanliness.
  • Administer medications as directed by vets or technicians.
  • Restrain animals safely during examinations or treatments.
  • Maintain patient records and treatment plans.
  • Educate pet owners on proper care and treatment protocols.
  • Cross training in reception.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality care to animals. Your responsibilities will include assisting with examinations and surgical procedures, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and ensuring the comfort of our animal patients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care, an interest in dentistry and drive for personal growth in a low volume high quality referral setting.


Duties


  • Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures.

  • Assisting technicians with blood draws, catheter placement, anesthesia, anesthetic monitoring, medical record keeping, instrument maintenance, understanding of sterilization protocols, surgery setup, cleanup and general clinic maintenance.

  • Monitor the health and behavior of animals in the clinic.

  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean and stocked with necessary supplies.

  • Administer medications as directed by veterinarians or technicians.

  • Handle and restrain animals safely during examinations or treatments.

  • Must have at least 1 year of animal handling in a veterinary practice.

  • Maintain accurate records of patient information and treatment plans.

  • Educate pet owners on proper care and treatment protocols.

  • Cross training in reception.


Skills


  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, husbandry practices and medical terminology.

  • Experience in pet care, including dog and cat handling techniques.

  • Familiarity with veterinary assistant duties, including , we can teach this as well.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Self-motivated learner with strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with pet owners and team members.

  • Proficiency in animal handling techniques to ensure safety for both staff and animals.

  • Computer and telephone skills are required.

  • Knowledge of Mac computers and use of iPads are a plus.

  • Ability to perform basic medical math.
