Job summary

Brookhurst Animal Medical Center seeks a compassionate Veterinary Assistant or Technician to support veterinarians in delivering high-quality care. You will assist with exams, treatments, and procedures while maintaining a clean, organized clinic environment and communicating effectively with clients.

The role requires 1–2 years of hands-on clinic experience, proficiency in venipuncture and catheter placement, and strong animal handling skills.

Qualifications

• 2 Years of previous experience in a veterinary clinic as a veterinary assistant required.
• Strong animal handling skills and comfort working with a pets.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently when needed.
• Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
• Collect and prepare lab samples (blood, urine, feces) for diagnostic testing.
• Administer medications, vaccinations, and other treatments under the supervision of the veterinarian.
• Perform basic lab tests, including urinalysis, fecal tests, and blood tests.
• Monitor and record vital signs, such as heart rate, temperature, and respiration of patients.
• Assist in preparing patients for surgery, including pre-operative care and anesthesia monitoring if applicable.
• Provide post-operative care and monitor the recovery of surgical patients.
• Educate clients on animal care, medication administration, and post-treatment care instructions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment.
• Assist with client communication, appointment scheduling, and front desk duties as needed.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately during examinations and procedures.
• Stock and maintain inventory of medical supplies and medications.
• Ensure a calm and supportive environment for both animals and their owners.
