Job description

Description

To provide the best possible Veterinary care to patients of Texas Litter Control. Vets must arrive 15 minutes prior to start of wellness shift.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with the Site Supervisor and/or Executive Director about any concerns with staff, clinic practices, and client issues.
  • Direct Vet Technicians as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Veterinarian about any changes in anesthesia protocols or other surgical related drugs.
  • Perform basic wellness services on pets.
  • Perform basic health check exams on patients prior to spay/neuter surgery.
  • Examine and treat animals in the adoption and sanctuary TLC programs. Some of these animals will be sick and require diagnostic work.
  • Examine and treat any rechecks from surgeries performed at the TLC clinic.
  • Euthanize TLC program animals if necessary.
  • Stay within compliance of all state and federal laws.

Requirements

Skills Requirements:

  • Patients are scheduled in 15 minute increments so Wellness Veterinarians must have good time management skills.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills.

Educational Requirements:

  • DVM – Must always provide a copy of current DEA, DPS, TVMA Licenses and proof of CE hours.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be flexible and willing to work overtime as required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Moderate noise / animal kennel atmosphere.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to talk, hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, calculator and telephone.
  • The ability to move about to coordinate work within observation rooms.
  • The ability to stand for long periods of time and in excess of 5 hours. Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation.
  • While performing the duties of this job, employees will frequently handle urine, vomit, and feces from cats, dogs, and rabbits. These can contain parasites contagious to humans. Employees are expected to wear proper protective clothing, gloves, and masks as needed.
