Job summary

Heartstrings Pet Hospice in Worcester, MA, seeks an Associate Veterinarian to deliver compassionate in-home euthanasia, hospice, and palliative care. You will work independently in the field with strong leadership support, ensuring Fear Free practices and high-quality patient care.

This role offers autonomy, flexibility, and meaningful work supporting pets and families. The ideal candidate values a privately owned practice culture, and is prepared to engage with families during emotional moments

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited school (DVM/VMD/BVMS).
  • Active veterinary license in the state of practice.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel for in-home visits.
  • Availability for some weekends on rotating schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-home euthanasia, hospice, and palliative care with empathy and Fear Free alignment.
  • Guide families through end-of-life decisions and support them throughout the process.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Heartstrings medical leadership and team.
  • Participate in ongoing clinical training and development.

We are hiring DVM Medical Team members in Worchester & Other Surrounding Area's and we are seeking exceptional Associate Veterinarians who want to practice meaningful medicine in a supportive, values-driven environment. Position Overview As an Associate Veterinarian with Heartstrings Pet Hospice, you will provide compassionate, gentle in-home euthanasia, hospice, and palliative care. You'll work independently in the field while being fully supported by a collaborative medical leadership team, dedicated Veterinary Care Specialists (VCS), and strong operational infrastructure. This role offers flexibility, autonomy, emotional fulfillment, and a low-stress medical environment, allowing you to focus on what matters most'supporting pets and families during life's most meaningful moments.

Experience in hospice, palliative care, or Fear Free certification is a plus?but not required. Comprehensive training is provided.

Requirements

Veterinarian Core Responsibilities

  • Provide in-home euthanasia and hospice care for geriatric and terminally ill pets
  • Guide families in making end-of-life decisions for their pets
  • Build relationships with local veterinary clinics, serving as an extension of their excellent care
Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS) from an accredited veterinary school
  • Active (or ability to obtain) veterinary license in the state of practice
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license
  • Availability to work some weekends as part of a rotating schedule
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and up to 100 lbs with assistance
  • Candidates will be subject to a background check and motor vehicle record (MVR) check post-hire and prior to their associated start date
