Role Description

The Veterinarian is a full-time, on-site role based at Valley Veterinary Hospital in Modesto, CA. In this role, the Veterinarian provides medical, surgical, and dental care for companion animals, including examinations, diagnostics, treatment planning, and follow-up care. Daily responsibilities include performing spay and neuter surgeries, administering vaccinations, interpreting radiographs, prescribing medications, and managing preventive care plans for pets of all ages. The Veterinarian collaborates with veterinary technicians and support staff, communicates clearly with clients about diagnoses and care options, and maintains accurate, compliant medical records. The role also involves participating in emergency care, upholding hospital standards of safety and cleanliness, and contributing to a positive, client-centered practice culture.

Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited institution and current, or eligible, veterinary license in the state of California.
  • Clinical proficiency in companion animal medicine, including physical examinations, diagnostics, treatment planning, and preventive care.
  • Surgical and dental skills, including competence in spay/neuter procedures, basic soft tissue surgery, and routine dental care.
  • Ability to interpret radiographs, laboratory results, and other diagnostic tests to inform appropriate medical decisions.
  • Strong communication and client education skills, with the ability to explain medical conditions, treatment options, and home care in clear, accessible language.
  • Collaborative approach to working with veterinary technicians and support staff, demonstrating teamwork, respect, and professional integrity.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, full-service hospital environment with a mix of wellness, urgent, and emergency cases.
  • Commitment to low-cost, accessible veterinary care and a high standard of animal welfare.
  • Sound clinical judgment, attention to detail in medical recordkeeping, and adherence to ethical and regulatory requirements.
  • Prior experience in small animal practice or internship training is preferred; new graduates with strong clinical skills and interest in mentorship are also encouraged to apply.
