Job summary

Northshore Humane Society in Covington, LA is seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join our dedicated team serving shelter and community animals. You will perform exams, diagnostics, surgeries, and treatment plans, with emphasis on shelter medicine and compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • DVM preferred with licensure in Louisiana or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience in shelter medicine or high-volume spay/neuter is preferred but not required.
  • Strong surgical skills, including spay/neuter proficiency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality medical care, including exams, diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries for shelter animals and clinic patients.
  • Perform spay/neuter surgeries and other routine procedures as needed.
  • Collaborate with the shelter care team to develop and implement medical plans.
  • Monitor animal health and wellness following industry best practices.
  • Communicate clearly with adopters, foster families, and volunteers about medical needs.
  • Assist in developing shelter medical protocols and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Participate in community outreach and education programs.

Job description

Northshore Humane Society is a non-profit animal shelter dedicated to providing compassionate care and medical services to homeless, abandoned, and neglected animals in the Covington area. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for animals in need while promoting responsible pet ownership within the community.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Associate Veterinarian to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of animals and work alongside a team of committed animal care professionals.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality medical care, including examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures, to our veterinary clinic patients and shelter animals.
  • Perform spay/neuter surgeries and other routine surgical procedures as needed.
  • Work closely with the shelter's animal care team to develop and implement medical treatment plans.
  • Monitor and maintain animal health and wellness standards in accordance with industry best practices.
  • Provide clear and compassionate communication to adopters, foster families, and volunteers regarding animal health and medical needs.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of shelter medical protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all animals in care.
  • Participate in community outreach and education programs as needed
  • Schedule: Up to 4-5 days per week, 40 hours max per week Flexible weekday hours with rotating weekends. No Sundays.
Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school.
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Louisiana or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience in shelter medicine, small animal practice, or high-volume spay/neuter services is preferred but not required.
  • Strong surgical skills, including proficiency in spay/neuter surgeries.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
