Job summary

Fremont Animal Hospital is a GP Practice offering the latest lab diagnostics, digital radiography, dentistry, surgery, and ultrasound. Veterinary externs will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain hands-on experience.

Externships range two to eight weeks, with stipends available for travel and living expenses. All veterinary students and technicians are encouraged to participate in NVA externship programs.

Qualifications

• Gain experience gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, and creating treatment plans.
• Learn diagnostics, dentistry services, and observe or assist surgical procedures.
• Develop medical management skills and communication with the medical team and clients.

Job description

Freemont Animal Hospital is a GP Practice with the latest lab diagnostics, digital radiograph (including dental), dentistry, surgery (including LSS stifle repairs), and Ultrasound (AFAST, TFAST, VetBlue). We have participated in many externships for veterinary technicians and veterinary students.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences at Fremont Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
