Job summary

Abqpetcarehospital in Hillsboro, Oregon, is launching an externship program starting September 2024. This opportunity enables veterinary students to gain hands-on experience with an exotics DVM, who will mentor them in surgical procedures on exotic patients.

Final-year veterinary students in their clinical portion are encouraged to apply, particularly those with an interest in exotic animals. Eligible students will receive a travel/living expense stipend to support their externship.

Qualifications

• Final-year veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are required.
• Interest and ability to work with exotic animals and perform surgery is essential.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories.
• Perform physical exams.
• Create treatment plans.
• Conduct diagnostics.
• Provide dental services.
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures on exotic patients.
• Manage medical care of patients.
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
