Job summary

Southwest Veterinary Hospital offers a Veterinary Externship within the NVA network. Students gain hands-on clinical experience by working with supervising Associate Veterinarians, learning history taking, exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgery.

Externships typically run two to eight weeks. A travel/living expense stipend is available, with a $1,500 stipend provided by Southwest Veterinary Hospital.

• Externship experience at an NVA hospital.
• Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain hands-on exposure.
• Externship durations range from two to eight weeks.
• All veterinary students are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams.
• Create and implement treatment plans and diagnostics.
• Provide dentistry services and observe/assist or perform surgical procedures.
• Manage medical care of patients and discuss cases with the medical team.
• Communicate effectively with staff and clients.
