Job summary

A maritime services company is looking for a Vessel Manager / Port Engineer to oversee shoreside maintenance and technical operations. The role requires at least 2 years of experience and knowledge of marine regulations. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication and leadership skills and be capable of managing third-party vendors effectively. This full-time position is located in the Pasadena area of Texas, ensuring compliance with all safety and operational standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years as Assistant Port Engineer or in a related trade.
  • Ability to go offshore for tests if needed.
  • Familiar with vessel Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Experience working with marine vendors.

Job description

The Vessel Manager / Port Engineer will report to the VP of Marine Ops. and will be involved in all technical aspects and infrastructure ashore and vessels. Duties are to include shoreside vessel maintenance and repairs, ensuring that all engineering work meets safety standards, marine regulations, support maintaining budgets. In addition, find ways to lower costs and increase the efficiency of the Company’s shoreside and vessel operations.

Experience Requirement:

  • Have some experience working with classification societies and be generally familiar with vessel surveys/inspections
  • Have some experience with DP systems and general DP configurations as well as equipment/tests etc. associated with DP class 2 vessels
  • Have some prior familiarity of CFR rules and USCG inspections for US flag vessels and associated surveys.
  • Training or qualifications in marine / shoreside mechanical and electrical scopes.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Assistant Port Engineer or trade related to this position, preferred.
  • Ability and certifications to go offshore with vessel for tests etc., if needed
  • Be familiar with vessel PMS (Planned maintenance system)
  • Have some experience working with and directing marine systems vendors and other third parties that may be directed to work on the vessels.
  • Be familiar with various IMO Maritime codes e.g. SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ILO Conventions, IMO resolution AB91(21) etc.

Education Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent engineering/electrical/technical education (if attended some Maritime academy /accredited college will be an added bonus)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Candidate should have excellent organizational skills and a proven ability to prioritize work and effectively manage their time.
  • Candidate should have strong leadership and commitment skills to ensure a healthy and safe workplace in efforts to prevent a negative impact on the environment.
  • Candidate should display excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with Offshore Crews and Onshore Management, alike.
  • Vessel maintenance programs.
  • Work with subcontractors and negotiate as required.
  • Ensure proper fleet and equipment maintenance.
  • Understand purchasing procedures plus assist or place orders as instructed.
  • Support the supervision of proper product and service deliveries from all vendors and subcontractors.
  • Report vessel performance and status to senior management as needed.
  • Review safety meetings and Master / Chief Engineer reports, actively engage in any safety meetings, drills and inspections.
  • Ensure safe operations at all times.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work extended hours (12+) daily.
  • Must be able to endure extreme environmental conditions, i.e., cold, wet, exposure to sun, etc.
  • Must be able to work on boats, barges, vessels plus fixed or floating oil platforms.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to climb stairs.
