Job summary

Butler University’s Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting August 2027. We seek a broadly trained vertebrate ecologist with interests in form and function and quantitative approaches.

Teaching will include organismal biology and courses in ecology and evolution, plus Core Curriculum courses for non-majors. Successful candidates will build an active undergraduate research program, participate in the Butler Summer Institute,

Qualifications

• PhD in biology or closely related field by appointment.
• Commitment to evidence-based and engaged-learning pedagogies.
• Ability to foster inclusive classroom environment for a diverse student body.

Responsibilities

• Teach organismal biology and coursework in ecology and evolution.
• Support and sustain an undergraduate research program with institutional backing.
• Deliver Core Curriculum courses for non-majors and contribute to department teaching.
• Foster inclusive, engaged learning and mentorship for a diverse student body.
