Vehicle Software Engineering Intern

Location: North Kingstown, Rhode Island, United States

Job type: Intern

About The Role

REGENT is building the seaglider, the first electric flying machine that will transport commercial passengers. With a vehicle that never flies higher than a few meters off the water, we unlock the ability to fly twice as far as an electric aircraft, and certification by maritime authorities which will let us fly first passengers by mid-decade. We are actively hiring passionate interns who can help us get our vehicle to market as quickly and safely as possible. We have over $9B in provisional orders from some of the industry’s largest operators and are hitting the ground running.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Learn and apply Software in the Loop, Processor in the Loop, and Hardware in the Loop testing from design through implementation in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Learn and practice concepts, processes and techniques for engineering software as part of a complex system of systems.
  • Work hands-on with flight hardware, integrating software solutions to verify performance in real-world scenarios.
  • Be a creative problem solver, highly collaborative, independently resourceful and eager to learn new things.
  • Communicate complex software engineering concepts in succinct and clear language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate passion for sustainable transportation and the aviation and transportation industries.
  • Be highly motivated and excited about joining a small, cross-functional team.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Pursuing a BS/MS in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, or related engineering discipline.
  • Passion for aviation, aerospace, electrical and/or nautical vehicle design and development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with C/C++ Embedded software development.
  • Algorithm development in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience or interest in software simulation environments and modeling (Simulink, Unreal Engine).
  • Experience with UAS, UUV, or autonomous vehicles.
  • Knowledge of guidance, navigation, and control.
  • Experience with vehicle state estimation.
  • Experience with vehicle integration and test.
  • Experience with object detection and avoidance.
  • Experience with sensors – Camera, Radar, Ultrasonic, Sonar, GPS, IMU.
Desired Skills & Qualification
  • Experience with graphical front-ends and human-machine interfaces.
  • Previous internship experience in a Software Engineering role.
  • Experience with CUDA and multi-threading/processing of camera data.
  • Flight test or sea trials experience.
