Job summary

LER TechForce seeks an experienced Quality Engineer to support vehicle quality initiatives at an automotive assembly plant in Chicago. You will analyze warranty data, perform root-cause investigations, and drive ICA/PCA actions with cross-functional teams.

The role requires hands-on OEM plant experience, strong Excel warranty analysis, and CAD navigation (NX/CATIA). You will collaborate with engineering, production, and suppliers to resolve top quality issues and report metrics from the plant

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 3+ years in automotive manufacturing, plant quality, product engineering, or warranty analysis.
  • Hands-on OEM assembly plant experience required.
  • Proven root cause analysis and resolution in production environments.
  • Strong warranty data analysis skills using Excel (pivot tables, lookups, trend analysis).
  • Ability to navigate CAD models (NX, CATIA) for part-to-part interface analysis; design ownership not required.
  • Experience with 8D, 5 Why, and Ishikawa diagrams for problem solving.
  • Experience implementing Interim Containment Actions (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Actions (PCA).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in manufacturing.
  • Onsite role at the assembly plant in Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Support vehicle quality initiatives within an automotive assembly plant environment.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve vehicle quality issues using warranty data and investigations.
  • Analyze warranty claim data and feedback to identify failure trends.
  • Perform daily triage and binning of warranty claims for prioritization.
  • Conduct root cause investigations using plant-floor inspections and returned parts analysis.
  • Lead development and execution of ICA and PCA.
  • Support assembly plant activities including Stop Ships, Quality Campaigns, and Audits.
  • Work on the plant floor to investigate build issues and validate corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal engineering to resolve quality issues.
  • Maintain and report Vehicle Functional Group (VFG) quality metrics (Top 20 issues).
  • Issue engineering alerts and documentation to support product changes and quality improvements.
  • Present findings and status updates to cross-functional teams and leadership.

Job description

  • Support vehicle quality initiatives within an automotive assembly plant environment.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve vehicle quality issues using warranty data, plant investigations, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Analyze warranty claim data and customer feedback to identify failure trends, emerging issues, and high-impact quality concerns.
  • Perform daily triage and binning of warranty claims into appropriate categories to support prioritization.
  • Conduct root cause investigations using plant-floor inspections, returned parts analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Lead development and execution of Interim Containment Actions (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Actions (PCA).
  • Support assembly plant activities including Stop Ships / Stop Builds, Quality Campaigns and Audits, and Engineering Trials and Running Changes.
  • Work directly on the plant floor to investigate build issues and validate corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal engineering teams to resolve component and subsystem quality issues.
  • Maintain and report on Vehicle Functional Group (VFG) quality metrics (Top 20 issues).
  • Issue engineering alerts and documentation to support product changes and quality improvements.
  • Present findings, status updates, and recommendations to cross-functional teams and leadership.
Note on scope:

Design ownership of components is not required for this role; functional CAD usage for investigation purposes is what is essential.

What you'll need to be successful:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, OR plant quality, product engineering, or warranty analysis roles.
  • Hands-on experience in an OEM assembly plant environment is required.
  • Proven experience performing root cause analysis and driving issues to resolution in a production environment.
  • Strong experience with warranty data analysis using Excel (pivot tables, lookups, trend analysis, large dataset handling).
  • Ability to navigate CAD models (NX, CATIA, or similar) for part-to-part interface analysis and root cause investigation; design ownership is not required, but functional CAD usage is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience using structured problem-solving methodologies: 8D Problem Solving, 5 Why Analysis, and Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams.
  • Experience implementing Interim Containment Actions (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Actions (PCA).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-visibility plant setting.
  • Effective cross-functional communication with engineering, production, and suppliers.
  • Ability to own issues end-to-end and drive them to closure.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to train and support technical users.
  • Onsite role at the assembly plant in Chicago, IL.
Preferred:
  • Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier experience in body systems, closures, or vehicle structures.
  • Experience with PLM tools (e.g., Teamcenter).
  • Experience with warranty or quality tracking systems.
  • Prior involvement in launch support or running product changes.
