Job summary

Gulf Coast Blood in Houston, TX is seeking a Vehicle Mechanic Assistant to support fleet maintenance and inspections. You will perform inspections, manage parts, and assist with repairs under supervision, while helping with vehicle readiness for service and auctions.

Strong teamwork and safety awareness are essential as you assist drivers and maintain equipment. The role emphasizes customer service and adherence to safety policies, with opportunities for career advancement within a nonprofit

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (TDL) with acceptable driving record required.
  • Must meet standards of The Blood Center’s Vehicle Safety Program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fleet vehicle inspections and record fleet mileage weekly.
  • Perform weekly parts inventory reconciliation; expedite shop parts for stock; receive and stock parts; organize inventory.
  • Deliver and pick up vehicles from outside vendors.
  • Perform general service repairs under supervision of Vehicle Mechanics.
  • Perform oil changes and assist with inspections.
  • Perform general brake repairs, tune-ups and safety inspections under supervision.
  • Make ready new coaches and vehicles for service; prepare vehicles for auction; clean interiors and organize shop.
  • Inspect gas pump conditions and record fuel levels and other fluids.
  • Inventory schedules and apply state license stickers; acquire vehicle state inspections.
  • Assist mechanics and truck drivers on deliveries including motor oil, fuel, coolant and waste oil; arrange disposal of waste parts.
  • Perform various office functions required by supervisor (filing, computer entry).
  • Always provide outstanding customer service.
  • Maintain, repair, and clean special equipment.

Vehicle Mechanic Assistant

Join our team of heroes! This position will be under general supervision working with a fairly routine schedule requiring a reasonable amount of judgment with regards to the cleanliness, inspections of the fleet vehicle and the fleet maintenance areas as well as motor court areas.

In this role, you will
  • Perform fleet vehicle inspections and record fleet mileage weekly.
  • Performs weekly parts inventory reconciliation; expedite shop parts for stock and inventory and receives and stocks parts, organize parts inventory.
  • Deliver and pick up vehicles from outside vendors.
  • Performs general service repairs under the supervision and direction of Vehicle Mechanics
  • Performs oil changes assists with inspections
  • Performs general brake repairs, tune-ups and safety inspections under supervision of Vehicle Mechanics
  • Make ready new coaches and vehicles ready for service; make ready vehicles for auction. Clean the interior of all scheduled coaches daily; clean and organize shop
  • Inspect gas pump conditions and record for documentation; inspect all bulk levels including diesel fuel, unleaded fuel, waste oil, coolant, transmission fluids, brake fluids.
  • Inventories schedule/apply state license stickers on all vehicles; acquire vehicle state inspections.
  • Assist mechanics and truck drivers on deliveries including motor oil, fuel, coolant waste oil and coolant. Arrange for proper disposal of waste parts.
  • Performs various office functions required by supervisor (filing, computer entry).
  • Always provide outstanding customer service.

We need someone who has
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (TDL) plus acceptable driving record
