Vehicle Maintenance Supervisors oversee the day-to-day operations of the vehicle maintenance staff at a facility. This position provides leadership and direction to maintenance staff. Supervisors coordinate and supervise maintenance work and repairs, as well as monitor safety, productivity, and quality.

Responsibilities of Position:

  1. Ensure all work performed by staff is completed in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  2. Be a mentor/coach to all direct reports with proper use of SAP programming and assignment.
  3. Supervise the maintenance staff, including training, scheduling work assignments, and authorization of overtime.
  4. Regularly communicate with management, operations, and others regarding the status of fleet vehicles, containers, and/or other equipment.
  5. Ensure the maintenance department maintains quality and safety standards.
  6. Ensure maintenance is performed safely, effectively, and expeditiously.
  7. Perform and monitor vehicle inspections.
  8. Review work orders and ensure parts inventory is maintained.
  9. Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and timely.
  10. Train and direct employees to improve their overall performance.
  11. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, employees, and managers.
  12. Conduct employee observations to ensure safety and procedures are being followed.
  13. Perform road calls to repair vehicles as necessary in the event of vehicle breakdowns.
  14. Road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs as needed.
  15. Perform mechanical duties as needed.
  16. May be required to travel within the company for training purposes or business needs.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

  1. Ability to maintain parts inventory.
  2. Familiarity with use of repair manuals, electrical wiring, and schematics necessary to troubleshoot.
  3. Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  4. Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, SAP a plus.
  5. Must be able to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and DOT rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements in a Regular workday:

  1. Frequently lift/carry/push/pull a max of 10 lbs.
  2. Continuously lift/carry/push/pull a max of 20 lbs.
  3. Frequently walk.
  4. Frequently stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl.
  5. Frequently climb and/or balance.
  6. Continuously work outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions.
  7. Continuously work in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter.
  8. Occasionally stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl.
  9. Occasionally climb and/or balance.

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

  1. Must be at least 19 years of age.
  2. No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
  3. Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
  4. Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
  5. Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  6. Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  7. Ability to travel between locations as needed.
  8. Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
  9. Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  10. Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
  11. Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  12. Must be able to read and speak English.
