Vehicle & Equipment General Mechanic 1st Class (0831) - Rail Vehicles

This position is in the Rail Vehicle Maintenance department, supporting SEPTA's extensive transportation network in Philadelphia.

Position Overview

We seek candidates for the role of Vehicle & Equipment General Mechanic 1st Class, focusing on rail vehicle maintenance and repair.

Compensation

• City Transit Division: $37/hr, increasing to $41/hr after 12 months
• Suburban Transit Division: $36/hr, increasing to $40/hr after 12 months
• Regional Railroad Division: $35/hr, increasing to $39/hr after 12 months

Note: Division assignment depends on SEPTA's needs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, clean, and maintain rail vehicle electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
• Replace, test, assemble, and install vehicle components such as motors, brakes, wheels, and gears.
• Lubricate equipment and parts, perform diagnostics, and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues.
• Complete work orders and maintain records of inspections and repairs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in mechanical, electrical, electronic, or air brake systems; rail car experience is a plus.
• Certification in electrical/electronic fields preferred.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with multi-meters and meggers.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain necessary tools.
• Ability to pass qualification and performance tests.
