Job description

We are seeking an experienced Vehicle Engineering Quality Manager to own and drive the resolution of customer-experienced vehicle quality issues across the North American vehicle portfolio. This leader is accountable for two critical areas: Warranty Acceleration Team leadership and Serial Life Vehicle Quality. The mission is straightforward: identify the issues hurting our customers, determine true root cause, implement robust permanent corrective actions, eliminate recurrence, and accelerate measurable improvement in vehicle quality and warranty performance.

The Quality Manager will set strategic direction, establish priorities, drive accountability, challenge technical teams, remove roadblocks, and ensure execution against the highest-impact customer and warranty issues.

For Serial Life Quality, this leader will work directly with Vehicle Teams to resolve key customer issues at the vehicle level and aggressively drive read-across of proven solutions to other applicable vehicles, platforms, model years, plants, and programs.

Key Responsibilities:
Warranty Acceleration Leadership
  • Own the strategy, governance, and effectiveness of Warranty Acceleration Teams focused on resolving the highest-impact customer and warranty issues.
  • Set priorities and drive accountability based on customer impact, warranty exposure, recurrence, severity, and business impact.
  • Challenge engineering teams to establish true root cause rather than relying on symptom treatment or temporary containment.
  • Accelerate time-to-fix from issue identification through validated permanent corrective action.
  • Remove roadblocks and escalate barriers preventing timely technical resolution.
  • Establish disciplined problem-solving methods with clear ownership, milestones, technical evidence, validation, and closure criteria.
  • Drive measurable improvement in Things Gone Wrong (TGW), warranty performance, recurrence, and customer satisfaction.
Serial Life Vehicle Quality
  • Lead VEHE Serial Life Vehicle Quality, maintaining strong Vehicle Engineering ownership of customer issues throughout the production life of the vehicle.
  • Partner directly with Vehicle Teams to identify, prioritize, and resolve the most significant customer-facing vehicle issues.
  • Assemble and drive the appropriate engineering expertise across systems, components, manufacturing processes, and suppliers.
  • Own the technical problem-solving process from containment through root cause, corrective action, validation, implementation, and effectiveness verification.
  • Drive cross-functional execution across Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Service, and Quality organizations.
  • Eliminate recurrence by ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into current production and future vehicle programs.
  • Drive read-across of proven solutions across applicable vehicles, platforms, model years, plants, systems, and architectures.
  • Ensure read-across opportunities are identified, assigned, implemented, validated, and tracked to closure.
Ownership & Leadership Expectations

This is not a tracking or reporting role. The Quality Manager is expected to actively lead problem resolution, challenge the organization, drive decisions, remove barriers, and remain engaged until the customer issue is permanently resolved and corrective-action effectiveness is demonstrated.

  • Own the outcome, not simply the tracking of the issue.
  • Hold teams accountable for commitments, timing, technical deliverables, and measurable results.
  • Make fact-based decisions using warranty, field, engineering, validation, and customer data.
  • Drive urgency while maintaining engineering rigor.
  • Communicate complex vehicle issues clearly to technical teams and senior leadership.
  • Build an environment where lessons learned are systematically transferred across the vehicle portfolio
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience
  • Significant automotive engineering experience with demonstrated responsibility for solving complex vehicle, component, manufacturing, or field-quality problems.
  • Strong technical root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving capability.
  • Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional technical teams.
  • Experience with vehicle development, validation, manufacturing, warranty, field quality, supplier quality, or Serial Life engineering.
  • Ability to interpret warranty and field data and translate information into actionable engineering priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical issues and recovery plans to senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Six Sigma Black Belt strongly preferred, or equivalent demonstrated mastery of structured problem-solving.
  • Experience applying DMAIC, 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa/Fishbone, Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and failure-mode/root-cause analysis.
  • Experience leading automotive warranty-reduction or quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Strong vehicle-level systems thinking and ability to resolve problems crossing multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience driving corrective-action read-across across multiple vehicle programs or architectures.
  • Previous engineering or quality leadership experience.
