Job summary

General Motors seeks a Vehicle Energy Model and Toolchain Development Engineer to advance simulation tools that predict energy usage, performance, and efficiency across propulsion systems, including electric and internal combustion engines.

You will improve tool fidelity, enable cross‑functional collaboration with Thermal Analysis, Vehicle Dynamics and Electrification Analysis, and train users while developing scalable models and co-simulation approaches.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with vehicle simulation tools and software, or ability to rapidly learn and develop capability.
  • Knowledge of Vehicle, Powertrain, and Controls Integration.
  • Desire to develop tools and processes to drive organizational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to dissect and leverage analysis and test data.
  • Solid understanding of engineering theory and principles of mechanical/electrical/thermal systems.
  • Desire to over-achieve goals and effectively represent the tool or vehicle customer.

The Role

As a Vehicle Energy Model and Toolchain Development Engineer, you will contribute to the development and enhancement of simulation tools and processes that predict vehicle energy usage, performance, and efficiency. Your work will support virtual engineering efforts across propulsion systems, including electric and internal combustion engines, with a focus on improving simulation fidelity and usability.

What You'll Do

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience with vehicle simulation tools and software, or ability to rapidly learn and develop capability

  • Experience with Simulation and Analysis Tools such as MATLAB/ Simulink/ SimScape, GT-Suite, AMESim, GMSim, CarSim, AVL and/or vehicle controls and calibration.

  • Knowledge of Vehicle, Powertrain, and Controls Integration

  • Interest in developing tools and processes to drive increased organizational effectiveness

  • Demonstrated ability to dissect and leverage analysis and test data

  • Solid understanding of engineering theory and principles of mechanical/electrical/thermal systems

  • Desire to over-achieve goals and objectives and effectively represent the tool or vehicle customer

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 7+ years of relevant experience

  • Specialized advanced degree in vehicle energy systems

  • Passion for tool development and vehicle Efficiency, Fuel Economy, EV Range and Performance

  • Knowledge and/or experience in Big Data, Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence

  • Experience with GM Vehicle and Powertrain Development Process, Advanced through Execution

  • DFSS Black Belt Certification
