Job summary

CarMax, the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, is seeking a Vehicle Delivery Driver in Columbus, Ohio. You will deliver vehicles to customers' homes and pickup vehicles for appraisal, while upholding safety, reliability, and courtesy on every route.

You'll perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintain DOT logs, load and unload vehicles, and ensure on-time deliveries. A valid driver's license, clean driving record, 1+ year delivery driving or CarMax experience, and DOT Medical Card

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older with a valid driver's license.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations in 3 years.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and secure loads per FMCSA standards.
• Ability to climb/bend/kneel to access vehicles on transport decks.
• Must meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Deliver vehicles to customers' homes and pick up vehicles for appraisal.

Role Responsibilities

• Safety first — conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using a company hauler
• Stay compliant — maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation
• Transport with Care — load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling, ladder climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Be accountable — move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck, keeping your equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver with purpose — deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
• Represent CarMax professionally – interact with vendors, store associates, and the public in a way that reflects our values every time.
• Safety first — conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards driving a non-Class-A Commercial Motor Vehicle
• Be accountable — move vehicles between customer’ s locations, CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck, keeping your equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver an exceptional customer experience — follow CarMax Standard Work to prepare and execute home deliveries and appraisal pickups at customer locations, handling all paperwork accurately and representing CarMax professionally in every interaction.

Required Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older with a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years; candidates must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles during transport; and perform repetitive physical tasks including pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load securement standards.
• Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with adherence to CarMax policies and safety standards.
• Works efficiently and uses time wisely
• 1+ year of customer service experience and 1+ year of delivery driving experience or CarMax experience
• Must possess or obtain a DOT Medical Card before starting with CarMax.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional state-specific endorsements may apply (e.g., Illinois Class C, Indiana “For Hire,” Louisiana Chauffeur’s License, Mississippi Class D Commercial).

The hourly rate for this position is:

$17.30 - $29.40

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

• To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
• For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
