Job Description

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a dedicated VDC Scanning Technicianto join our talented team based out of any of our US office locations (MA, NJ, PA, MD, NC, KS, CA).

This position will require travel between two active project sites located in Michigan and Indiana. Travel frequency and duration will vary depending on project needs.

In this role, you will be responsible for executing high-quality laser scanning operations across various project sites. You will also play a key role in the transformation of scans into valuable data, adhering to established quality control protocols and contributing to the team's success by assisting with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and supporting data processing when necessary. This role involves significant travel and demands proficiency in using the latest scanning technologies and software to ensure data collection aligns with safety, schedule, and quality standards.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive laser scanning operations at various construction and project sites, ensuring data is collected according to high standards and project specifications.
  • Develop expertise in cutting‑edge scanning technologies and software, with a commitment to continuous learning and proficiency in the latest advancements in the field.
  • Uphold quality control protocols for scanning activities, ensuring the collected data is accurate, reliable, and meets all required quality standards.
  • Assist in the writing and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laser scanning operations, contributing to the documentation of best practices and operational guidelines.
  • Knowledge in operating Leica’s RTC360, BLK2GO, Top Con’s Total Station, NavVis VLX, and any other scanning hardware.
  • Learn and provide support to Data Processing Technicians as needed, facilitating a collaborative workflow between field data collection and data processing to manage workloads effectively.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s/Associate’s/Technical degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 5‑7 years of experience in computer‑assisted drafting, design, scanning, construction, surveying, civil, and VDC/BIM.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the field of laser scanning, with extensive experience managing complex scanning projects and navigating challenging project environments.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting sophisticated data quality and equipment issues, with a proven track record of maintaining high standards of data integrity.
  • An unwavering commitment to professional development, with a mastery of current scanning technologies and a keen eye for emerging trends and tools in the industry.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, capable of steering multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Advanced communication and mentorship abilities, with a focus on building a cohesive, skilled, and motivated field technician team.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.
Travel
  • This position will have 75–100% travel, or as required by the assigned project.
  • You may be assigned to the client site for an extended period.
  • Overnight travel or staying in the city of the Client’s location is possible, depending on the assignment.

  • You will visit construction sites and will be required to take site safety training and adhere to site safety rules.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.
  • Work schedule may require flexibility, including availability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts, as well as weekend.
Safety
  • This position is a safety‑sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research or other “non‑administrative” areas.

All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required.

Salary

For candidates located in Southern California, the salary offered for this role is between $83,000 and $111,000, but the actual salary offered is dependent on experience, skill set, and education.

For candidates located in Northern California, the salary offered for this role is between $87,000 and $116,000, but the actual salary offered is dependent on experience, skill set, and education.

For candidates located in New Jersey, the salary offered for this role is between $79,000 and $106,000, but the actual salary offered is dependent on experience, skill set, and education.
