Job summary

Gilbane Building is seeking a VDC Engineer II to perform constructability and coordination tasks on a project using technology and processes. The role sits in the office and on job sites as project needs dictate.

You will work under experienced VDC Engineers, learning new industry skills daily while contributing to safe, on‑time project delivery and client satisfaction. A strong foundation in BIM tools and collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, BIM or related field.
• 1–3 years of VDC coordination experience.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Completes the quality checks and execution of day-to-day VDC project deliverables and processes.
• Communicates with internal and external project teams; facilitates meetings to resolve project issues, review schedules, or other project documentation.
• Assigns responsible party(s) for issue resolution; verifies and documents with meeting minutes, submittals, RFIs, and updated models.
• Utilizes 3D design software to identify, communicate, and resolve project challenges.
• Utilizes Reality Capture technology, such as laser scanning and drones, to support project deliverables.
• Combines all building discipline models into coordination model.
• Reviews the coordination model for constructability issues utilizing the software’s clash detection capabilities.
• Participates in BU office and department activities including orientation programs, training sessions, and peer group meetings.
• Supports 1-3 VDC deliverables under supervision.

Experience/Education

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Information Modeling (BIM) or related field
• 1-3 years of VDC Coordination experience
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong problem-solving skills
• Strong time-management and analytical skills
• Strong knowledge and proficiency with BIM design software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, In-design)
• Basic understanding of construction documentation
• Knowledge of construction systems
• Receptive and inquisitive about design concepts and integrated building components and systems
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
• Knowledge of Baseline and Enterprise VDC standards
