Role Description

The VDC BIM Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in San Diego, CA, responsible for leading Virtual Design and Construction efforts across assigned projects. This position oversees BIM execution plans, manages model setup and coordination workflows, and ensures that design and construction teams are aligned on model standards and deliverables. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating multidisciplinary BIM models, facilitating clash detection and resolution meetings, and supporting field teams with accurate, constructible models and drawings. The VDC BIM Manager works closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and trade partners to integrate BIM processes into preconstruction and construction activities, improve project predictability, and support quality, schedule, and cost objectives. The role also involves mentoring project teams on BIM best practices, maintaining digital project documentation, and collaborating on continuous improvement of Layton’s VDC standards and tools.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Building Information Modeling (BIM) skills, including BIM Coordination experience and familiarity with industry-standard platforms and tools.
• Candidates should possess expertise in Virtual Design processes, with the ability to lead model-based workflows and support project visualization and constructability reviews.
• Candidates should possess a solid foundation in Architecture or related design disciplines, enabling effective collaboration with design professionals and interpretation of contract documents.
• Candidates should possess knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems and coordination requirements within integrated BIM models.
• Relevant experience in commercial construction, general contracting, or VDC/BIM management, preferably with involvement in complex or large-scale projects.
• Proficiency in BIM and VDC software (such as Revit, Navisworks, and related coordination tools), along with strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead coordination meetings, present model information clearly, and partner with field and office teams.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
