Additional Information About the RoleOur nursing staff provides pre/post-operative care to the wide variety of interventions needed for peripheral vascular disease patients. Surgical services include endoluminal and open repair of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, thoracic outlet decompression, carotid artery angioplasty/stenting, carotid endarterectomies, dialysis access (fistulas/grafts), catheter-directed thrombolysis, and various bypasses and stents for aorto-iliac and upper/lower extremity occlusive disease.

Division 7500/75PCU is a fast paced Cardiovascular Surgery division made up of 25 beds with a mix of step down and pcu beds. We care for a variety of complex cardiovascular surgery patients including aortic and abdominal aneurysms, thoracic outlet syndrome, carotid artery disease, aorto-iliac and lower extremity occlusive disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmia surgery, endoscopic coronary artery revascularization, valve repair and many more. The Staff Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the patient care team using critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to continually assess the patients'; status. The Staff Nurse (RN) is trained in critical care and will be certified in BLS, ACLS, ACUTE CARE, arterial line monitoring, and pacer wires.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities
  • Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
