Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Vascular Sonographer - Level I to perform advanced non-invasive imaging in the Vascular Laboratory, with emphasis on accuracy, patient care, and timely exam completion.

The role requires ARDMS RVT or CCI RVS certification, BLS within 30 days, at least two years of experience, and the ability to document procedures in EPIC while supporting scheduling and billing processes.

Qualifications

• Registration as Vascular Sonographer RVT or RVS certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs advanced non-invasive imaging procedures for Vascular Laboratories.
• Performs proper billing of procedures and prioritizes patient scheduling.
• Coordinates and prioritizes patient scheduling to ensure timely procedure completion.
• Obtains information for procedures and answers patient questions prior to testing.
• Performs imaging procedures within established guidelines and timeframes.
• Notifies medical staff of significant abnormal findings.
• Documents procedures in the patient chart and supports physician interpretation.
• Calculates vascular measurements to aid diagnosis.
• Maintains equipment and exam rooms.
• Delivers preliminary reports to physicians in a timely manner.
• Participates in training and education to maintain knowledge.

Job description

Performs advanced Vascular Sonography procedures in order to facilitate appropriate diagnosis and treatment of patients. Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Vascular Sonographer - Level I, as defined within the job description.

Minimum Qualifications

• Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Experience

• Two (2) years of vascular sonography experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs advanced non-invasive imaging procedures for Vascular Laboratories.
• Performs proper billing of procedures and prioritize patient scheduling.
• Coordinates and prioritizes patient scheduling in order to insure procedure completion in a timely fashion.
• Prior to testing, obtains information for specific procedures to be performed, answer pertinent questions to patients concerning procedures and are courteous to patients and their families 100% of the time.
• Performs all non-invasive imaging procedures within established guidelines and timeframes.
• Notifies appropriate medical staff if there are significant abnormal findings.
• Documents procedure performed within patient chart to inform the physician that the test has been completed.
• Calculates and measures vascular structures from procedure data in order to aid the physician in interpreting results and achieving a diagnosis.
• Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the equipment, procedure rooms and work areas of the Vascular Laboratories.
• Completes accurate documentation through EPIC to ensure proper billing.
• Participates in education and in-service opportunities in order to maintain and enhance knowledge.
• Provides preliminary report on study performed in a timely manner. Reviews preliminary report with physician.
• Follows and implement Vascular protocols and policies.
• Participates in the training of vascular ultrasound techniques and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Hearing (aid permitted) – must be able to function without use of lip reading.
• Visual acuity (corrected) – keen for both distant and near objects/individuals (i.e. ability to read small print).

The Vascular Sonographer Clinical Ladder is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality imaging care, and improve job satisfaction for cardiac sonographers.

To apply for the next level, the Vascular Sonographer must meet the requirements of their current level. They must also meet the required years of experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level.

Level 1

• No experience required.
• All Vascular Sonographers with less than 12 months of experienceenter at Level one.

Level 2

• Meets requirements for previous level.
• Two years of sonographer experience.
• Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus additional skill sets.

Level 3

• Meets requirements for previous levels.
• One continuing education pathway.
• Four years of sonographer experience.
• Compliant in 4 leadership/supervisory skills.
• Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 3 additional skill sets.

Level 4

• Meets requirements for previous levels.
• One continuing education pathway.
• Five years of sonographer experience.
• Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills.
• Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus 4 additional skill sets.
