Job summary

Phoenixville Area School District is seeking a golf coach to train student-athletes across skill levels, fostering academic and athletic growth. You will develop fundamentals, strategies, and physical training while mentoring players in discipline and sportsmanship.

Responsibilities include coordinating with schools and the District Athletic Department, adhering to PIAA and state education guidelines, and ensuring timely practices, checks on eligibility, and season scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with middle/high school offices and Athletic Department regarding information requests.
  • Meet requirements set by the District Board of Education, PIAA, and state DOE.
  • Model the behavior expected of student-athletes including timeliness, enthusiasm, respect, and constructive criticism.
  • Set a positive example in practices and games with appropriate sideline conduct.
  • Provide in-season training rules in writing before the season and follow due process for violations.
  • Review academic eligibility for prospective and current student-athletes as directed by the Athletic Department.
  • Follow policy outlines in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria in the job description.
  • Be aware of and implement administrative policies from district leadership and leagues.
  • Schedule and complete a full season of contests including State tournaments.
  • Begin pre-season practices on the first permissible day per PIAA rules.
  • Attend coaching clinics to improve performance.
  • Attend school events (Awards Night, Athletic Boosters, etc.).
  • Show vitality and enthusiasm for the sport and exercise good judgment.
  • Accept constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
  • Be competent in sport techniques with players responding to directions.
  • Adapt to changing game situations and continuously improve coaching methods.
  • Be innovative in using new coaching ideas in addition to proven methods.
  • Ensure the team is well prepared for opponents.
  • Motivate the team to meet/exceed goals and promote good sportsmanship.
  • Promote sportsmanship at all times and maintain equipment inventory.

Job description

  • Develop, monitor, supervise, and train student-athletes to play and participate golf, both beginners and advanced students.
  • Commit to building relationships with and have a willingness to coach and mentor student-athletes, academically and athletically.
  • Instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
  • Instruct/guide student-athletes to lead to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence and good sportsmanship.
Job Goals

Performance Responsibilities
  • Cooperate in a timely manner, with middle and high school office and the District Athletic Department, in regard to requests for pertinent information that might be periodically required.
  • Meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), and the Pennsylvania Department of Education
  • Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes including timeliness to practices, beng positive and enthusiastic, being respectful, and practicing constructive criticism while upholding the disciplines of the program.
  • Set a positive example at all times while with student-athletes, be dressed appropriately at all practices and games, and maintain a suitable sideline conduct at all times.
  • Provide all applicable in-season training rules as well as any that may apply to out-of-season conduct to team members in writing prior to the start of the season. Follow appropriate due process procedures when violations occur.
  • Check and Review the status of academic eligibility for all prospective and current student-athletes as directed by the Athletic Department
  • Follow the District Athletic Department Policy as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria as outlined in the job description.
  • Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, and PIAA.
  • Schedule and complete a full season of contests including State tournament games.
  • Begin pre-season practices on the first day permitted for the sport per PIAA rules and regulations
  • Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
  • Participate in School events (i.e. Awards Night, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc.).
  • Show physical vitality and enthusiasm for the sport and use good judgment in decision-making.
  • Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
  • Is competent in techniques of the sport with players responding positively to directions given.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt properly to changing game situations.
  • Is well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport as well as look at ways to constantly improve knowledge and coaching techniques.
  • Is innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas in addition to already proven methods of coaching.
  • Ensure that team is well prepared for opponent(s).
  • Provide motivation for team to meet/exceed their goals and stress the value of acceptable personal behavior by each student-athlete.
  • Actively promote good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.

Trainings/Certifications

  • Provide a satisfactory result on a Police Records Check, Child Abuse Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check.

SALARY: Stipend according to PAEA collective bargaining agreement
