Marin Academy is seeking a Varsity Boy’s Basketball Assistant Coach in San Rafael, California. The role requires strong basketball knowledge, coaching experience, and a professional, positive presence with flexible afternoon/evening availability.

Preferred candidates have head coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level, and must comply with NFHS/CIF/NCS/league rules, plus certified safety trainings. The season runs November through late February to mid-March.

Qualifications

• Previous successful coaching experience at the high school level, preferably within the previous four years.
• Collegiate-level playing experience is desirable; high school playing experience required.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to teach basketball effectively.
• Ability to supervise and organize student-athletes.
• Motivate student-athletes to participate and sustain interest in the program.

Responsibilities

• Attend mandatory pre-season coaches meeting and professional development workshop with Athletic Department.
• Attend the end-of-year Athletic Awards Celebration.
• Adhere to CIF Ethical Guidelines for Coaches and the school’s code of conduct.
• Apply discipline in a positive, firm, and consistent manner according to school policy.
• Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Varsity Boy’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Marin Academy is seeking candidates for their Varsity Boy’s Basketball Assistant Coach position. In addition to having strong basketball knowledge and coaching experience, candidates must be professional and positive and have flexible afternoon and evening schedules. A strong candidate for this position would have head coaching experience at the high school and/or collegiate levels. The official varsity basketball season runs from November 2 through late-February to mid-March.

Qualifications

• Previous successful coaching experience at the high school level, preferably within the previous four years.
• Collegiate-level playing experience in this sport is highly desirable, with high school-level playing experience expected as a minimum requirement.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to effectively teach the sport of basketball.
• Ability to supervise and organize student-athletes.
• Ability to motivate student-athletes to participate and sustain their interests in the program.
• Demonstrate proper sportsmanship and respect for players, officials, opponents, fans, and other coaches.
• Maintain good public relations and cooperative relationships with parents, officials, students, staff, and school administrati on.
• Serve as a positive role model for students, coaching staff, and the Marin Academy community.
• Work effectively with student-athletes of varying abilities and cultural backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to and keep abreast of NFHS, CIF, NCS, and League rules.
• Assume responsibility for proper care of the school facilities and equipment.
• Aid in responsibility for the supervision of all students affiliated with the team.
• Report injuries to Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, and Assoc. Athletic Director in a timely manner.
• Adhere to MA Coach job functions as listed in the Coaches Handbook as well as the general policies of the school.
• Availability to coach during school vacation periods.
• CPR, Concussion, First-Aid, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and Heat Illness Prevention Certified (or be willing to get certified upon hire).

Other Job Duties

Coaching Term

Stipend: $1,500-$3,500

Requirements include a valid California driver’s license, TB test, and LiveScan background check. Additionally, ASEP or NFHS CA Coaching Certification is mandated by the CIF for all high school coaches. All Marin Academy coaches must become certified by the Positive Coaching Alliance.
