Job summary

St. Luke's School in New Canaan, CT seeks a dedicated Varsity Assistant Field Hockey Coach to mentor student-athletes, support the Head Coach, and promote sportsmanship and discipline.

You will lead practices, assist game coaching, develop players, and help implement strategies while maintaining safety and integrity in all activities. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, field hockey knowledge, and a commitment to helping students grow on and off the field.

Qualifications

• Availability for practices and games, including evenings and Saturdays.
• CPR and First Aid certification (training provided).
• CT A / NY E activity vehicle license endorsement highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach with team management, including planning and running practices, coaching during games, and supporting player development.
• Provide individual and group instruction to improve skills, technique, and understanding of field hockey.
• Coordinate preseason, regular season, and post-season activities.
• Attend all practices, games (home and away), and team events.
• Help develop and implement strategies and game plans.
• Collaborate with the Head Coach to assess player performance and provide constructive feedback.
• Promote a positive team culture that reflects St. Luke's values and mission.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, and staff.
• Assist with management and care of team equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
• Ensure safety and well-being of all student-athletes, working with athletic training staff.
• Use tools such as Hudl or other sport-specific platforms for player development and scouting.
• Serve as a role model, demonstrating leadership, accountability, and enthusiasm.
