Job summary

Vans is seeking a design-focused professional to join our team in Costa Mesa, CA on a hybrid schedule. You will lead design development from concept through line reviews, creating digital and board visuals, colorways, and tech packs while ensuring the final product aligns with brand aesthetics and margin targets.

The role requires a design degree, strong Adobe Suite skills, and experience with 3D and Generative AI.

Responsibilities

• Create seasonal inspiration boards, designs, tech packs, and fit.
• Determine material selection, color details, and styling details.
• Ensure designs hit margin targets while maintaining aesthetic.
• Create computer designs, sketches, graphics, prints, colorways, and storyboards.
• Prepare visual presentations and follow up on all design details.
• Present designs at line reviews and product launches.
• Oversee garment fitting and ensure quality meets standards.
• Review prototype details with developer and merchandiser.
• Collaborate with development and merchandiser for final results.
• Adhere to all calendar dates.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Responsible for market research, creating seasonal inspiration boards, designs, tech pack creation, and fit.
• Determine material selection, color details, and styling details.
• Responsible for knowledge of cost components and ability to design products that hit margin targets.
• Create computer design; sketches, graphics, print artwork, multiple colorways and storyboards.
• Create visual presentations and follow up with all design details.
• Deliver presentation of designs at line reviews and product launches.
• Oversee the fitting of garments and review product details to ensure product execution meets the design aesthetic as well as commercially acceptable quality standards.
• Review details on prototypes with developer and merchandiser.
• Share responsibility for development and merchandiser for final product results.
• Adhere to all calendar dates.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• Bachelor’s degree in design or equivalent experience in accessories or apparel
• Expert knowledge of the Adobe Suite
• Experience in 3D and Generative AI
• Excellent sense of style and color
• Thorough knowledge of the global lifestyle/action sports market
• Possess strong presentation, listening, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to multitask managing design work with business requests
• In‑depth knowledge of design techniques and processes
• Comprehension in manufacturing process – design, development, fit and production
• Capable of contributing to the design process with the team and partnering with product development
• Follows through with all tasks, assignments to meet product development calendar
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret policies, procedures and other business practices, guidelines and documents
• Demonstrates the ability to synthesize aesthetic inspiration from vintage, forward‑thinking design, and mainstream consumer expectations to create relevant, compelling product concepts

Location requirement: Hybrid schedule in‑office in Costa Mesa, CA.

Hiring Range: $82,080.00 USD - $102,600.00 USD annually

Incentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
