Job summary

Vanderbilt Imaging Services in Bellevue is seeking a Sonographer to operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment for obstetric, abdominal, neurosonography, or breast imaging. You will review patient history, prepare equipment, explain procedures, and position patients to obtain optimal views.

You will maintain patient records, ensure safety and infection control, and collaborate with physicians to provide high-quality imaging. RDMS certification and 1 year of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• RDMS certification or eligible.
• Experience with ultrasound equipment operation and patient positioning.
• Knowledge of safety and infection control in imaging.

Sonography, or ultrasonography, is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis. May specialize in obstetric/gynecologic, abdominal, neurosonograpy, or breast sonography..KEY RESPONSIBILITIES* Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions* Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings.* Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view* Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves* Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician* Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealth ones.
