Job summary

Reese Family Services in Virginia is seeking a compassionate Van Driver to transport adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to day programs, residential homes, and community locations.

This role offers a Monday–Friday schedule with no nights or weekends, a company vehicle, paid training, and opportunities for growth. You will perform safety checks and ensure passengers' well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport individuals to and from our Day Support Program, residential homes, and community locations.
  • Provide courteous, respectful, and compassionate customer service to individuals receiving services.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle safely.
  • Secure wheelchairs and mobility devices using proper safety procedures.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Complete mileage logs, trip sheets, and transportation documentation accurately.
  • Report maintenance concerns, accidents, delays, or incidents promptly.
  • Follow assigned transportation routes while maintaining safe driving practices.
  • Ensure all passengers follow health and safety procedures.
  • Work closely with the Program Director and transportation team to provide dependable service.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Schedule

This position follows a split-shift schedule:

Morning Route: 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM

Afternoon Route: 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Enjoy several hours of personal time between routes.

What You'll Do

  • Safely transport individuals to and from our Day Support Program, residential homes, and community locations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Virginia Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • Ability to meet Virginia DMV driving requirements.
  • Ability to safely assist individuals with mobility needs, including operating wheelchair lifts when necessary.
  • Ability to lift and assist passengers as needed.
  • Must successfully pass required background screenings and drug testing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience driving passenger vans, shuttle buses, or commercial vehicles.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience in healthcare, transportation, customer service, or human services.
