Job summary

DATTCO, INC. is a family-owned passenger transportation company serving 30 school districts across Connecticut and Rhode Island. We are hiring experienced Van Drivers for our South Windsor, CT CREC location to transport students on assigned routes.

Position is part time with a guaranteed 20 hours per week. Pay rate ranges from $20 to $21.75 per hour, based on experience and licensing. Benefits include 401k with company match, paid holidays, and opportunities to grow within the company.

Qualifications

• Must have at least three consecutive years of driving experience.
• Must hold or obtain a V Endorsement for student transportation.
• Must meet Department of Motor Vehicles and company safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school on assigned routes.
• Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report safety or maintenance concerns.
• Follow all traffic laws, designated routes, and school district safety requirements.
• Maintain a safe, respectful environment for students while operating the bus.
• Communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, school staff, and supervisors.
• Complete all required safety training and compliance requirements.

We are hiring experienced Van Drivers for our South Windsor, CT CREC location!

• Hourly Rate: $20-21.75
  • Pay rate is determined based on experience and licensing.

What You’ll Do:

• Safely transport students to and from school on assigned routes.
• Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report safety or maintenance concerns.
• Follow all traffic laws, designated routes, railroad crossing procedures, student pick-up/drop-off procedures, and school district safety requirements.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly environment for students while operating the bus.
• Communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, school staff, transportation supervisors, and safety personnel.
• Complete all required safety training, drills, continuing education, and compliance requirements under Connecticut DMV, school district, and DATTCO policies.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must have at least three consecutive years of driving experience with a valid driver’s license.
• Must hold, or be able to obtain, before transporting students, V Endorsement required for the operation of student transportation vehicles.
• Must have an acceptable driving record and meet Connecticut DMV, school district, and DATTCO eligibility standards.
• Must successfully complete all Connecticut DMV required training and qualification requirements for Student Transportation Vehicle operators.
• Must meet the physical qualification standards established under 49 CFR Part 391 and maintain any required medical certification.
• Must successfully complete all pre-employment screening requirements, including driving record review, fingerprinting, state and national criminal background checks, drug screening, and any additional screenings required by Connecticut DMV, applicable school districts, or DATTCO policy.
• Must complete and maintain all required annual, in service, safety, and regulatory training.
• Must comply with all applicable Connecticut DMV, school district, and company safety policies and procedures.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to enter and exit the vehicle repeatedly and perform required vehicle inspections.
• Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and use vehicle safety equipment.
• Ability to assist passengers during boarding, exiting, and emergency evacuations.
