Job summary

Puffer-Sweiven LP is seeking a Valve Technician for the Houston, TX area to test, assemble, and repair control and isolation valves in a quality-focused environment. The role requires hands-on skills with valve assemblies, calibration, and electrical/mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities include documenting test results, communicating with customers about status, and helping prepare equipment for field testing. This on-site position emphasizes safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5 to 8 years of valve and/or process instrumentation assembly, repair, testing, calibration experience required.
• Experience with Motor Operated Valves (MOV) preferred.
• Prior manual machine operating experience strongly preferred.
• Mechanical and Electrical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Test and assemble valves following manufacturers’ procedures or customer specifications.
• Document testing and repair of equipment (test reports).
• Communicate with customers about repair/test status as needed.
• Clean deposits from parts using solvents, brushes or sandblasting.
• Operate and inspect equipment to verify conformance to standards and customer requirements.
• Set up frame/position components and fasten with bolts, screws or fasteners.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.
• Assist in field testing of valves and equipment as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Tests and assemble valves by following manufacturers’ assembly procedures, work orders or other customer specifications.
• Documents the testing (test reports) and repair of the equipment.
• May communicate with customers directly to discuss the status of the repairs and tests.
• Clean corrosive and other deposits from serviceable parts using solvents, wire brushes or sandblaster.
• Paints valve, fittings and other devices using spray gun.
• Required to work at main facility to tear down, decontaminate, assemble, repair, and test equipment.
• Position, fit or align valve parts on workbench, floor or machine following manufacturers’ assembly procedures, work orders or other customer specifications.
• Position and fasten components together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets or other fasteners.
• Adjust, repair, and/or replace defective product parts.
• Inspect, test and verify accuracy of assembled unit for conformance to standards and customer requirements.
• Report defective materials or questionable conditions to Production Supervisors.
• Record all test results.
• Lift, load, and move supplies and finish product between storage and work area.
• Assists in setting up field test equipment for testing valves in the field.
• Label product with identifying data.
• Follow safety procedures and regulations.
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
• Performs other related duties other departments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Knowledge:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience/Skills:

• 5 to 8 years of experience required, including specific experience with valve and/or other process instrumentation equipment assembly. Repair, testing, calibration experience required
• Experience with Motor Operated Valves (MOV) preferred.
• Prior manual machine operating experience strongly preferred
• Mechanical and Electrical experience preferred.

COMPETENCIES:

• Ability to safely use and maintain a large variety of tools and equipment, associated with the assembly of valves and actuators, including impact wrenches, electric and manual hand tools, lapping machines, testing equipment, overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Ability to work independently or as a team member.
• Ability to read and interpret assembly manuals (IOM’s).
• Ability to read customer specification sheets. May have to read schematic drawings.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
