Qualifications

• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
• Certification in Surgical Technology is required.
• Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Apply aseptic technique to maintain a sterile field.
• Prepare for surgery by pulling supplies and instruments.
• Recognize and select the appropriate surgical instruments for procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology for procedures.
• Maintain a safe sterile field, label medications, and understand heat-generating devices to prevent fires in the OR.
• Set up for procedures and count supplies/instruments to ensure no foreign objects remain.
• Assist physicians during procedures with competence and clear understanding of the procedure.
• Differentiate sutures and their applications.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and participate in process improvements.

Job Summary And Qualifications

What you will do in this role:

• Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field.
• Demonstrates knowledge of preparing for surgery by pulling the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure.
• Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications.
• Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology in order to prepare and assist in surgical/endo procedures.
• Maintains a safe sterile field by: a - positioning sharps correctly b - labeling all medications on sterile field c - understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d - Participating in a timeout with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety.
• Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical/ endo procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instrument to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient.
• Understands the principles of and is able to competently assist a physician during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself.
• Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications.
• Demonstrates the ability to follow through until problems are addressed or corrected.
• Alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated.
• Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase.
• Participates in department’s process improvement activities.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
• Certification in Surgical Technology
• Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred
