Qualifications

  • Willingness to work in a high-power laboratory environment with medium-voltage and high-energy electrical systems.
  • Hands-on testing experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with power electronics labs and safety standards is beneficial.

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Validation Engineer. This role is based out of Raleigh, NC.The Validation Engineer will play a key role in the development and validation of Medium Voltage Solid State Transformer (MV-SST) platforms and advanced critical power solutions. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and documenting verification and validation activities for medium-voltage power conversion systems operating at voltages up to 35kV.The successful candidate will support product development through laboratory validation, prototype commissioning, system integration, safety reviews, certification testing, customer demonstrations, and field validation activities. The role requires hands-on interaction with high-power electrical equipment, power electronics, controls, energy storage systems, and medium-voltage distribution equipment.The engineer will collaborate closely with systems, electrical, firmware, controls, mechanical, and manufacturing teams across regions to ensure successful product development and deployment.The expected annual salary range for this role is $71000 - $105000 a year.Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.What you’ll do:• Develop verification and validation plans for MVSST and medium-voltage power conversion products.• Analyze test data and determine compliance to product requirements, industry standards, and design specifications.• Prepare validation reports, engineering assessments, and technical documentation for project reviews and regulatory submissions.• Support UL, IEEE, IEC, and utility compliance testing activities.• Formally document product design issues & specification non-conformances along with subsequent corrective action taken; provide feedback to project teams on test activities, open issues, and project schedule.• Organize test data and prepare test reports.• Execute testing of medium-voltage power electronic systems operating from low voltage through 35kV-class distribution applications.• Participate in global test and design reviews.• Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) personnel to continuously improve laboratory safety.• Ensure compliance with Eaton Electrical Safety Program requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, arc-flash requirements, energized work practices, and laboratory standards.• Support and perform minimum viable product testing and demonstrations in the lab or at customer sites.• Collaborate with cross functional teams within US, in EMEA and APAC.• Support prototype build, testing and delivery of products to the customer.Qualifications:Required (Basic) Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering from an accredited institution.• Industry internship experience in a testing/validation engineer role.• Able to develop and execute engineering test plans.• Familiarity with electrical power systems and laboratory test equipment.• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and test procedures.• Willingness to work in a high-power laboratory environment with medium-voltage and high-energy electrical systems.Preferred Qualifications:• At least one engineering internship experience.• Hands-on testing experience.• Good understanding of solid-state transformers, power converters, inverters, UPS systems, battery energy storage systems, microgrids, or utility-scale power electronics.• Working knowledge of power electronics laboratories, high-energy and medium-voltage electrical equipment.• Familiarity with partial discharge testing, dielectric testing, insulation systems, and medium-voltage protection schemes.• Basic understanding of UL, IEEE, IEC, CSA, or utility certification programs.• Experience with data acquisition systems, automation, and test scripting tools.• Previous coursework or experience in power electronics, electric power systems, controls, or high-voltage engineering.All positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
