WorkGenius Group is seeking a Validation Engineer in Foster City, CA to lead test plans, fixture design, and environmental testing for early-stage electro-mechanical prototypes. You will work closely with design engineering to ensure performance and safety standards are met.

The role involves hands-on lab work, data analysis, and root-cause investigation with DoE and FMEA experience, in a fast-paced hardware development environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 3+ years hardware testing experience.
• Experience testing robotics, automotive systems, medical devices, or similar complex hardware.
• Proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, load cells); 3D CAD for fixtures (CATIA).
• Experience with test automation and data analysis using Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C++, or similar; strong DoE knowledge.
• Strong FMEA skills (DFMEA/PFMEA); familiarity with rapid prototyping and IATF 16949 preferred.

• Conduct structural, functional, reliability, and environmental testing using DAQ systems and sensors.
• Analyze test data, perform teardown and root-cause analysis of mechanical/electrical issues.
• Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, logistics, quality, and program teams to validate prototypes to UL/CE/ISO/MIL-STD standards.

Title: Validation Engineer

Industry: Autonomous Vehicles & Technology

Location: Foster City, CA

Duration: Approximately 6 months; onsite in Foster City, CA

Responsibilities

• Develop, document, and execute test plans, validation protocols, and SOPs for early-stage electro-mechanical prototypes in partnership with design engineering.
• Design and build custom mechanical test fixtures and electrical harnesses; coordinate parts, equipment, documentation, and resources for test readiness.
• Conduct structural, functional, reliability, and environmental testing using DAQ systems and sensors including temperature, voltage, strain, torque, and acoustic sensors.
• Analyze test data, perform teardown and failure analysis, and identify root causes of mechanical, electrical, and functional issues.
• Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, logistics, quality, and technical program teams to validate prototypes against applicable safety and performance standards, including UL, CE, ISO, and MIL-STD requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in **Mechatronics**, **Mechanical Engineering**, **Electrical Engineering**, or a related discipline, plus 3+ years of experience in hardware testing, reliability engineering, or validation of complex electro-mechanical products.
• Experience testing products such as robotics, automotive systems, medical devices, consumer electronics, or similar complex hardware in a hardware development environment.
• Hands-on proficiency with laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, load cells, and soldering or rework tools; experience with 3D CAD for fixture design, preferably CATIA.
• Experience using Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C++, or similar tools for test automation and data analysis, with a strong understanding of statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DoE).
• Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and FMEA skills, including DFMEA and/or PFMEA; familiarity with rapid prototyping, regulated-industry documentation, electro-mechanical subsystems, and automotive quality standards such as IATF 16949 is preferred.
