Job summary

Gray & Son, Inc. is seeking a reliable vacuum truck operator to collect and transport waste, sludge, or debris in Maryland. You will operate vacuum trucks safely, connect hoses and loading equipment, and maintain logs in compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities include site preparation, cleanup, disposal of materials, and supporting foremen during safety briefings. A valid CDL with Hazmat/Tanker endorsements is required, plus a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; work-related experience may substitute.
• Valid CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements required.
• Clean driving record and willingness to follow safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate vacuum trucks and connect hoses/equipment to collect materials.
• Prepare job site, ensure proper cleanup after operation.
• Dispose of collected waste per regulations and company policy.
• Maintain truck logs per state and federal regulations.
• Support foremen during safety talks and toolbox meetings.
• Promote a safety-conscious culture and mentor new hires.
• Perform routine vehicle inspections and basic servicing.
• Maintain radio/phone contact with base for dispatches.
• Other duties as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate vacuum trucks, including connecting hoses, pipes, and other equipment to collect materials.
• Preparing the job site for operation, ensuring proper cleanup after completion.
• Properly disposing of collected waste in accordance with regulations and company policies.
• Handling vacuum lines and unloading equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintaining accurate records of collections and disposals.
• Maintains radio or telephone contact with base or supervisor to receive instructions or be dispatched to new location.
• Maintains truck log according to state and federal regulations.
• Cleans, inspects, and services vehicle.
• Willingly attend and support Foremen/Superintendents during morning huddles and toolbox talks.
• Actively promote and willingly support a safety conscious culture. Follow all safety regulations and company policies. Take a proactive approach to avoiding potential hazards such as hitting other vehicles, other equipment, coworkers and falling objects. Active participation in proactive safety programs to assist with reducing the experience modification factor. Take the initiative to mentor all new hires in your department.

Education & Experience

• Valid CDL License – Class A or B accepted
